However, the training experience presented significant challenges. One of these challenges was the use of inappropriate teaching techniques. Adults learn when they see the need for it and dictate what and when they want to learn (Kelly, 2013). When adults see the need to learn, instructors should use the most appropriate teaching techniques to ensure that learning is productive and fruitful. The lecture method that was boldly adopted in the experience was not fit for both the elderly learners and the subject in context. Groups and interactive experiences are better for adult learners for they help them retain their attention (Kelly, 2013).

The sole reliance on this technique was caused by the lack of adequate and appropriate teaching materials. Lack of adequate educational materials made it difficult for all the instructors to transmit knowledge to the learners efficiently. One of the inconveniences occurred during the practical session. In this practical session, we were supposed to train members of the public how to neutralize a home security threat.
